3D Tensor Normalization for Improved Accuracy in DTI Tensor Registration Methods

چکیده
This paper presents a method for normalization of diffusion tensor images (DTI) to a fixed DTI template, a pre-processing step to improve the performance of full tensor based registration methods. The proposed method maps the individual tensors of the subject image in to the template space based on matching the cumulative distribution function and the fractional anisotrophy values. The method aims to determine a more accurate deformation field from any full tensor registration method by applying the registration algorithm on the normalized DTI rather than the original DTI. The deformation field applied to the original tensor images are compared to the deformed image without normalization for 11 different cases of mapping seven subjects (neonate through 2 years) to two different atlases. The method shows an improvement in DTI registration based on comparing the normalized fractional anisotropy values of major fiber tracts in the brain.

DR-TAMAS: Diffeomorphic Registration for Tensor Accurate Alignment of Anatomical Structures
In this work, we propose DR-TAMAS (Diffeomorphic Registration for Tensor Accurate alignMent of Anatomical Structures), a novel framework for intersubject registration of Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) data sets. This framework is optimized for brain data and its main goal is to achieve an accurate alignment of all brain structures, including white matter (WM), gray matter (GM), and spaces conta...
متن کاملMulti-contrast large deformation diffeomorphic metric mapping for diffusion tensor imaging
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can reveal detailed white matter anatomy and has the potential to detect abnormalities in specific white matter structures. Such detection and quantification are, however, not straightforward. The voxel-based analysis after image normalization is one of the most widely used methods for quantitative image analyses. To apply this approach to DTI, it is important to ...
متن کاملThe Benefits and implementations of Diffusion tensor imaging and Neural Fiber Tractography in Brain Surgery
Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...
متن کاملThe influence of the registration on voxel-based statistics of fractional anisotropy images: using detected white matter degenerations associated with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy as a gold standard
Introduction: Recent developments have enabled automated voxel-based statistical (VBS) analyses of DTI data, so that fractional anisotropy (FA) images, for example, may be quantitatively compared between groups of subjects without manual investigator dependency. In contrast to conventional VBM of T1w images, spatial normalization for VBS of FA images (FA-VBS) may be based on different image con...
متن کاملThe impact of post-processing on spinal cord diffusion tensor imaging
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) provides information about the microstructure in the brain and spinal cord. While new neuroimaging techniques have significantly advanced the accuracy and sensitivity of DTI of the brain, the quality of spinal cord DTI data has improved less. This is in part due to the small size of the spinal cord (ca. 1cm diameter) and more severe instrumental (e.g. eddy current...
